Sarah Dutton 1861-1950

Sarah Ann Dutton was born in Bebington, Cheshire in 1861, after the family had moved from Saighton. When Sarah was 20 years old she was working as a cook/servant for the Rumsey family on Rake Lane. In the late spring of 1889 she married David Wilkinson a tailor, and they went to live in Bradford, Yorkshire.

Eventually, she must have returned to Wallasey because she is buried in the family grave in Rake Lane Cemetery. The photograph below shows Sarah standing outside the shop that they owned at 32 Barkerend Road, Bradford. they also owned the property next door and took in boarders. They had no children of their own, and decided to employ young William Piper the son of  Sarah’s sister Margaret.
